Creating safe swimmers is the single most crucial factor in learning to swim. If your not a safe swimmer than so many safety risks skyrocket. What makes a safe swimmer? Well, let's dive into the subject a little bit!
Creating Safe Swimmers
The first and foremost is having your swimmer feel comfortable in the water. If your child freaks out the chances of drowning increase. Since I was a terrible swimmer even with years of swim lessons as soon as my babies were old enough, I had them in parent-tot swim lessons. I did not want my girls like me. I wanted the water to be a natural part of their lives. The more exposure to water, the better.
Set rules for your kid right away when they're around the water. Right now, we've been boating with our kids quite a bit, and they know as soon as we get into the boat that I require lifejackets. You can never be too safe when it comes to being in and around water.
Take the time to teach your child to float, rollover, breathing techniques, sidestroke, and how to tread water. I highly recommend checking out Aqua-Tots Swim Schools. All classes include water safety skills, and it's a HUGE focus at the swim school! Sign up today!
