Life Jacket Safety Tips
- When selecting a life jacket, ALWAYS read the manufacturers sizing chart. Each manufacturer can vary so read carefully.
- Select the size based on your child's current weight. My youngest just moved up a size. Make sure you check you have the proper weight BEFORE heading out in the water.
- Life jackets do not replace adult supervision. I was at the beach the other day and just because the child had floaties on mom was over 300 feet away, not paying attention. This is a big no-no. Never be more than arm's length away from a child.
- Don't allow your child to use a life jacket as a toy or improperly. Teach them the correct use and how to fasten a life jacket correctly.
- Make sure your life jacket is Coast Guard Approved.
- Set good examples for children. Always wear a life jacket when on open water or on a motor craft.
