About one in five people who die from drownings are children under the age of 14. That is a staggering statistic. If you have a child under the age of fourteen, please make sure to read these basics.
May Drowning Prevention Month
All parents, guardians, and caregivers if you're not already become CPR certified.
- Water safety courses do not replace parental supervision.
- Do not lure your kids around or in the pool with toys.
- Invest in fencing and pool alarms.
- Teach children to swim.
- Put your phone and any other distractions away while your kids are in the pool.
- Make an emergency plan for your whole entire family. Teach your kids emergency numbers.
- Lock toilet seats if you have small kids.
- Never dive or jump into unfamiliar water.
- It's a good idea to check the water temperature.
- The toddler years pose the highest risk of accidental drowning.
- If you have small children remove bird ponds, waterfalls, and fountains
The American Association of Pediatrics recommends that ALL children take swim lessons. Studies show that water survival skills and swim lessons reduce the risk of drowning between the ages of 1 to 4.
Aqua-Tots Swim School is the perfect place to start your child's swim education. May is drowning prevention month. Make sure to sign up your child today.
