What to Consider When Buying a Car
- The number one thing to consider when purchasing a car is what you can afford. Does it work better for your budget to buy or lease? Can you afford a new car or would an older car fit your family's budget?
- Consider the size of your family including pets and friends that typically tag along. We have two pets and a beach house that we rent out, so I had to consider what I'm usually hauling around with me.
- How many miles do you typically drive in a year? This is another important consideration when purchasing a vehicle. I usually average 12,000 miles a year on my cars which doesn't work well with a lease. So, it was cost effective for me to purchase instead of rent.
- How long do you plan to keep the vehicle? This is another important factor. I generally use my mini-van for 5-7 years, and then I start feeling like I need something newer. Safety is a top priority in my family.
- Know the invoice price of the car you're interested in. Buying a car is like purchasing a house. Take your time and check out reviews and car values. Cars.com is an excellent resource for finding all you need to know about what you should be paying and the latest safety reviews!
I hope what to consider when buying a car will give you something to think about. Buying a car is a BIG investment, so take your time and head on over to Cars.com to begin your research!
