You're in a new environment, you feel your body reacting. You want to stop it, but you can't. You begin to sweat, your breath becomes shallow and quick, heart is pounding against your chest. This my friend, is anxiety. If you haven't experienced it you're very lucky.
I recently learned that anxiety can be linked to perfection. The more I think about it, the more I think it could be true. At the end of the day you find yourself all upset that you didn't finish your to-do list. So, you wonder where in the week you will have possibly the slightest chance to squeeze it in. You start doing a little flipping in that head of yours. My answer, just stop. It is time to retrain your brain.
I'm not saying this is going to work all the time. It won't. I know around my period time, sometimes there is no controlling my anxiety, so I walk.
The next time anxiety starts, stop and figure out the source. Then it's time to retrain your brain. Let's pretend you're going to a party. You are very shy and introverted. You know one person, so you will totally be out of your comfort zone. When you arrive you don't see anyone that you know. You notice you begin to sweat a little. You start feeling awkward and uncomfortable. Stop right there! Your body is telling you something. It's saying why are you so upset? So, after you have paused for a moment, take a deep breath, and change your thinking. You could say to yourself, I'm a great person, people can't wait to meet me. Repeat until you're relaxed.
You can apply this to any situation. Change your attitude to gratitude. It's all about how you think about things. Retrain, switch the angle, and pretty soon you will be thinking about life completely different.
